Modern Jazz

Becoming popular in the early 20th century, Modern Jazz became a defined dance style in the 1960s.
Jazz dance is very stylish and allows full expression of individual personalities.
With its leaps, turns and isolations it is highly energetic, dynamic and heaps of fun.

We use the International Dance Teachers' Association syllabus

Preparatory & Primary

Introduces basic movement to music with a focus on developing the musicality and dynamics of dance.

This is often the next dance style to try if finding that ballet is not the right fit,

or if looking for something with more excitement to compliment the technical training of ballet.

We accept students into preparatory level from age 5.

Students must be at least 6 years old to sit the preparatory exam, and 8 years old to sit the primary exam

Medal tests, rosettes and classwork assessments are also available from age 6.

45 minute classes, once a week

Grade One - Grade Five

These grades focus on developing a real sense of dynamics and contrasting movements,

allowing dancers to embrace moving in different ways and beginning to use the whole body to express.

Students must be 9 years old to sit Grade One; 10 years or over for Grades Two to Five.

Grade One 45 minute class | Grade Two upwards 60 minute class once a week

whilst also incorporating new concepts such as improvisation and interpretation.

Dancers in vocational levels also work on developing their own sense of performance and style.
