What to Expect in Our Classes

Our jazz classes are structured to offer a blend of creative expression and technical training. This ensures that students enjoy a rewarding dance experience while developing the skills necessary for advanced levels. Through engaging exercises and routines, students learn to enhance their sense of rhythm, musicality, and dynamic movement.

In these grades, we focus on teaching students how to move in contrasting ways, utilizing sharp and smooth movements, fast and slow tempos, and high and low levels. This approach helps dancers to develop versatility and adaptability, essential traits for any successful performer.

Uniform & Hair Requirements

Our jazz students are required to wear the following:

- Emerald leotard
- Black or pink fitted shorts
Bare feet for class and exams.

Tan jazz shoes may be required for performances (you will be notified if required)

Hair tied back in a neat braid or bun, no loose hair on face.

Structure of the Dance Year

Our dance year is structured to provide a well-rounded experience for our students, with key events and milestones to look forward to:

- Annual Production: Held in Term 2 (June), our annual production is a highlight of the year, giving students the opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity on stage.
- Exams: Students in Grades 1, 2, and 3 are expected to sit exams, marking their progress and achievements in jazz dance. The Grade 1 exam is available for students aged 7 and up, while the Grade 2 and 3 exams are for students aged 8 and up.

Time Investment and Parental Support

For our young dancers to feel confident and prepared for performances and exams, we encourage parental support in practicing at home. To facilitate home practice, we provide video resources that parents can use to help their children review and perfect their dance techniques.
